PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

After reading Russell Baker's highly engaging "No Gumption" and Annie Dillard's equally delightful "The Chase," both easily found online, ask students to consider the quality of gumption. How necessary is it in our lives? This essay asks students to compare this quality in the two autobiographical narratives. Additionally, they will enjoy adding a bit of their own personal experience to the essay. Being able to compare texts and add personal insights are essential skills in Common Core and in college. This is a fun project and my students learned a lot! This packet has a brainstorming page, an easy-to-follow outline, and revising and editing checklists. Students are guided through all the stages of writing here!
