Use this product just like a Partner Clock, but tie in geography at the same time! It’s a great beginning of the year activity. For example, Student A and Student B exchange their Compass Buddy worksheet. They decide that they both have the “North” line blank. Student A writes his/her name on the North line of Student B’s worksheet, and Student B writes his/her name on Student A’s North line. Students continue to find others to fill in their worksheet. Sure, students will get their friends to sign their sheet first, but with eight blanks, chances are they will have to branch out of their comfort zone eventually. Have students keep this sheet handy by placing it in a sheet protector in a binder/folder, or if your students have binders with the clear pocket on the back, slide it in there to keep it safe.
Now when you need students to do a partner activity, you can say “Use your North Compass Buddy to…”
Laminate the first page (without the blanks) as a display to reinforce which direction/buddy students should use. The page with blanks is for student use. Make sure they write their name on their paper before passing it around to others. Enjoy!
