Product Description

Are you looking for a fun way to reinforce concepts, as well as, a quick way to partner student into cooperative learning groups?

Compass Partners might be a partnering strategy that will work well in your classroom. This is a geography themed take on “Clock Buddies.” Give each student their own sheet . Have them write their name at the top. Have the students go around and choose ONE partner for each specific slot.

I recommend guiding them one slot at a time and give a time limit. Remind the students to make good choices, since they will most likely have to work with this partner several times throughout the quarter.

Once the students have had a chance to choose a partner for each Cardinal direction (or Continent or Lake). Practice partnering up make sure no one accidentally mixed up their partners.

Odd number students? Have one student write the word “Guest Partner” in one of their spots. That way they can either chose to be a group of three or work with a student whose partner is absent.

What if I want to pick the partners?

Absolutely! You can pick The partners for your students. Have the students leave a specific spot(s) blank and you can assign the partners for them. Or if you have your desk in groups, you could assign their “North Partner” to be the student across from them. That way when you want them to work with the partners you chose or you want to limit movement, you can say partner up with that specific direction (or continent or lake).
