Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning (curriculum.gov.bc.ca). These competencies are not intended to be mastered in any given grade level, but rather developed throughout the student’s K-7 educational journey.
This resource includes K-7 self-assessments for the following competencies: Communication, Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Personal and Cultural Identity, Personal Awareness and Responsibility, and Social Responsibilities. Each self-assessment document covers all of these competencies, however, educators may choose for students to focus on one competency at a time. Three "I Can" statements along with an open-ended question are presented for each competency.
Self-assessments are provided as both .doc and PDF files.
