PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

4-Essay Writing Packet
This writing packet is a complete writing lesson that has students write 4 essays.

Essay 1 is an introductory paragraph; Essay 2 has 3 body paragraphs; Essay 3 is a concluding paragraph; and Essay 4 is the culmination essay where students revise and edit their handwritten essays into one 5-paragraph essay that is typed and is complete with a Works Cited page using proper MLA formatting.

The prompt is as follows: "What is an American?" The texts support this thesis.

However, you can easily use any prompt you desire. If you have Word, just go back through the documents and change the prompt. But if you do this, the texts probably won't be any value to you, so you'd have to find your own.

There are 4 texts included for the students to read so they don't have to spend time researching. The texts are all they need for this assignment and include the specific source information so they can focus on writing the Works Cited page in the correct format instead of worrying about the source information.

One grading rubric for Essay 4 is included. The grading for these essays follows the Collins Writing style and include 3 Focus Correction Areas for each essay. If you don't use FCAs or don't want to use them, simply open the documents in Word and change your grading style to suit you.

The 4-page assignment packet includes the following information for the students:
Prompt
Objectives
4 Writing Assignments
4 Reading Assignments
FCAs for Essays 1, 2, & 3 (Using the Collins Writing style)
FCA Rubric for Essay 4 (Using the MLA format)
3 examples of proper formatting with a Works Cited page
A review page for what an argument is, what a thesis is, how to use quotes, and how to properly format a paper using MLA guidelines.

This writing lesson can be taught in conjunction with mini lessons on the basics of writing -- paragraph structure, thesis statements (this assignment uses the 3-reason thesis), citing sources using MLA style, and the 5-paragraph essay.

It's a great writing assignment that takes the students step by step through writing paragraphs that easily combine into a final draft of a 5-paragraph essay.

All documents come in Word and in PDF formats for a total of 30 pages.

The page breakdown is as follows:
4 pages -- Assignment Packet
1 page -- FCA Grading Rubric for Essay #4
