Follow Stickman on a fun and engaging unit to introduce the Five Themes of Geography that is ideal for intermediate and middle school classes. Everything needed for an entire week's unit are included, as well as a short teacher reference guide that quickly and easily explains each of the activities that I have used with success in my classroom. Posters are included to print off as reference throughout the year as you change regions or locations of study.

The entire unit is designed around a 5E model to help make lesson planning easy and includes a list of vocabulary words covered throughout the unit.
Engage- A fun mental map activity that allows you to gauge your students familiarity with US geographical locations while they have fun trying to track down a fugitive stickman. This includes a PowerPoint, student handout, teacher answer key, US map assessment and teacher answer key.
Explore- A visual and analytical activity to introduce the students' to the five themes of geography. Student's make inferences based on Stickman's predicament in each poster and justify their reasoning for the choice. This includes a poster set, student handout,and teacher answer key.
Explain- Interactive Notebooks are a regular part of a Social Studies classroom. This presentation provides definitions and examples for the five themes and allows students to fill in a graphic organizer for their notebooks. A journaling prompt is provided. This includes a PowerPoint and student graphic organizer.
Students need an opportunity to apply new concepts, not just memorize the definitions. Two handouts are included so students can put their new knowledge to work in real world scenarios.
Students will create a mosaic featuring the five themes of geography based on a major world city. This is an easy project to grade with the rubric provided. Finished mosaics make nice examples of student work for your hallways and bulletin boards right from the start of the year. This includes a brainstorming sheet, student directions, mosaic template, and a rubric.
