This wonderful activity is a complete guide to running book clubs in your classroom. The unit is organized into eight readings that have a book mark activity to go with each reading and a responding to reading question (except #5). The responding reading questions are a good tool to see how well your student is understanding the story, or you can use them as a group discussion prompts.
This activity also includes a letter to parents describing the sensitive topics included in the book. While this is not something that I am required to do at my school, many parents have told me they appreciate it and keeps them more in touch with what their student is reading at school. The letter is in a word document so you can add your own information.
Answer key is also included!
This is a book to use to tie into your social studies curriculum as it explores what life was like in the late 1800s on a whaling ship.
