I was asked to teach Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift to all of my junior classes [academic levels ranging from accelerated (1) to low (3)] so I had to adapt the content to accommodate the needs of each classroom.
This unit does not include any lesson plans per se. I would read a chapter/section of the book in class, do a learning activity, and share some examples if we had time. I would review/discuss the chapter/section the next class period, quiz the students on it, and continue on.
There are numerous versions of quizzes, tests, and activities included that depend on whether the class read each part of the book by themselves, a chapter at a time, or were reading a simplified version of the text. Keys are included for the quizzes.
This unit also includes a lecture on the time period [Restoration Period] and a lecture on the author; notes on 18th century politics; a teacher's guide to the text with it's own activities, tests, and vocabulary; and a final culminating "write your own satire" activity that I developed (available for $1.00 in my store)
