This is an activity that I have created to follow my state's comprehensive curriculum. I incorporated things I have seen on many other microscope labs which are very basic and used a picture of a microscope that I use in class which I photo shopped to make it fit this activity correctly.
This is complete with a directions section, higher order thinking questions, an area for some observations, a check list for a teacher to utilize when watching wet mount creations demonstrations by students, a diagram with a chart following and a scoring sheet to show where the points are distributed for grading purposes.
I used this with my 7th graders this year, which mostly consist of special education and 504 students and they got a lot out of it and showed competence on assessments in class. I have a paraprofessional with me for 3 class periods due to the fact that I have over 7 special education students and over 4 504 students per class period in the morning. My after noon only consists of regular and 504 students (approximately 5 -8 per class). We put them in groups and made two stations. My para has been working with me on and off for the past 8 years and knows my material well, so she monitors and aids students on the microscope section as I aid and monitor the students doing the wet mount slides. Every student demos how to make it to me as part of the grade.
