Curriculum: Building knowledge and understanding, as well as mathematical vocabulary
Used primarily as a supplement to a regular mathematics program, having intermediate/middle school aged students build mathematical vocabulary is a great way to keep students preoccupied once they have finished a daily problem. These can also be used as a mathematics centre.
Essentially, students identify vocabulary terms that come up in lessons and class discussions, and independently build vocabulary understanding by completing 'math cards'. I have used this before where each student completes a roladex of cards attached to a key ring, allowing easy access in their binder.
This resource works as a great tool for students to use during problem-solving, inquiry based mathematics tasks.
Includes the hand outs for students with complete, relevant vocabulary for Grade 7 & 8 students that follows the Ontario curriculum's curriculum for Mathematics (Easily adaptable to other areas such as Common Core).
