Perfect for new teachers or those more experienced, this novel study divides the book into four parts (students read over a four-week period), with one to two paragraph-length response questions that require thoughtful responses. It also includes a unit-end project and an essay. The recent release of the film version tends to give The Road considerable appeal with students, and its larger meaning is very open to interpretation, which can make for interesting discussion. I find that the written response questions don't allow for students to 'fake' reading it, and there's not a lot on this novel that they can access on the internet, so if they complete the weekly assignments you know they've actually read it. Probably most suitable for grade 10-12 English.
