This 3 week unit covers the lesson topics of: Lab Safety, Science Equipment, Metric System, and Models in Science. It includes all presentations, worksheets, labs, projects, enrichments, and lesson plans needed for you to easily and successfully teach the curriculum.

Students will:

1. Understand the importance of knowing and following lab safety rules.
2. Know and follow basic lab safety practices.
3. Know the names and uses of basic lab equipment.
4. Show that they can properly use lab equipment to obtain accurate data.
5. Know how measuring in the metric system similar to or different from measuring in the standard system.
6. Know the most common metric prefixes.
7. Know how to convert between scales within the metric system.
8. Know the purpose of a model in science.
9. Know the reasons to change a science model that is currently in use.
