This product provides a complete investigation unit to teach students how to determine the quality of a water source. Guided notes (with answer key) provide students with the background knowledge they need to conduct a variety of water tests including pH, phosphates, nitrates, temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and flow rate. Student recording sheets for their collected data as well as other observations about the stream will help to draw conclusions about a stream's quality. Students will also be able to hunt for macro invertebrates and use the data chart to score the stream life. Finally students will write about their conclusions as to the water quality and defend their choices using the evidence found at their stream. Two versions of the writing prompt are included for differentiation! This file is also fully editable so you can adapt it to suit your local stream environment if needed.
