Bundle Description

These activities brings some magic to your class! Students work collaboratively to solve quadratic equations by completing the square to form sentences involving characters and items from the Harry Potter series.

Students will work in groups of four (three will also work). Each student will receive a card and work on their problem individually. Their answer will refer to a character, place, or item. The group must string together the sentence and tell that sentence to the teacher. If they get it right, they move onto the next set. If they do not get it right, they must return to their group and fix any problems.

This is a great activity for a review after a lesson. This can also be played as a game where the first team to finish all the sets wins!

There are eight sets of cards and four problems are in each set. The answers refer to common mistakes made through the completing the square process.

There are 3 levels for this activity:

Beginner: a-value is always 1. All answers are integers (no square root answers.)

Intermediate: a-value is an integer other than 1. All answers are real numbers.

Advanced (coming soon!): a-value is an integer other than 1. Answers include imaginary numbers.

CLUE-like answers are the same for the varying levels. You may use these for different levels/classes or give beginner to some students, intermediate to others, and advanced to some! Easy differentiation that will ensure all students feel challenged and engaged!
