In this technology-based complex inheritance patterns activity, students will work independently to move around the classroom to learn about these exceptions to Mendel's laws. QR codes are incorporated in most stations to allow students to easily access the videos and articles onto their personal devices in order to then answer the questions. Links to all sources are included, in addition to the QR codes, for students who choose to work on a laptop. Topics covered include: incomplete dominance, codominance, polygenic traits, epistasis, blood type, and sex-linked genes. Editable station cards are included for you to customize for your classroom, if needed. This can function as a guided inquiry activity to introduce complex inheritance patterns after having covered the basics of Mendelian genetics and Punnett squares, or as a follow-up activity after discussing complex inheritance patterns in lecture.

Why should I use this product in my classroom?
I love lab stations as a way for students to productively use technology as well as work autonomously in the classroom. Students get out of their seats and have the opportunity to use their beloved technology in a meaningful way. I love these lab stations in particular due to their relevancy to students. Students love learning about heredity and most of their inheritance questions go beyond to scope of Mendel's laws of inheritance. This is a topic that nearly every student has an interest in, so they really enjoy learning more about it! These stations are relatable to their everyday lives, making it engaging and interesting for students.
