A great way to build your classroom community is to allow students the opportunity to randomly share good things about a person in the classroom. I set a stack of these in my classroom and explained where there were and how it would work. I also showed my students that I wanted them to place their comment sheets in my mailbox. I would collect a few and occasionally share some of the compliments and caring comments to the class. Students REALLY loved hearing their name in the limelight and those who wrote the comment feels proud to be recognized too. It is a great way to help enhance the sense of family you are creating in the classroom. It is also nice for a parent to receive this note when they go home in the weekly take-home folder.
** The comments sheets can be copied and then cut in the middle to save paper and because a half sheet is plenty of space.
