An excellent introduction to musical composition for your young musicians.
"Each square below equals one beat. Compose a rhythm pattern using quarter notes, eighth notes, quarter rests and half notes. Write only one quarter note, one pair of eighth notes or one quarter rest in each square. Remember that a half note will take two squares because it equals two beats."
"Practice clapping and counting your pattern. Play your pattern on rhythm sticks. Exchange patterns with a friend. Play your friend’s pattern on rhythm sticks. Perform your pattern with an instrument of your choice from the music room. With your partner, perform both patterns as a duet.
Perform two different patterns at the same time with two different instruments. What is another creative way to perform your rhythm pattern?"
