This is a hands on activity to help students practice composing and decomposing numbers. This resource can be used in a whole group setting, for centers, or independent work. Students will roll a number cube to decide which number to start with. They will use counters or manipulatives to model that number and then use another color to build up to the number. Example: If they are working on number 5 and they roll 2 on the number cube, that's how many counters they would put in the work mat. They would then add another counter until they get to number 5.
