What is a Math Exploration Station?
They are fun hands on ways to use manipulatives to learn key aspects of each TEKS. These are great for small groups, centers or even whole group.

What's included in Place Value Math Exploration Stations:

Station 1
Students can use provided manipulatives (the teacher will need to cut out) or Kim Sutton or other expanded form cards from tpt to explore Expanded form. Students will have to use the cards to decompose 4 numbers given. Students will see the decomposing and understand that expanded form shows the value of each digit.

Station 2
Students can use provided manipulatives (the teacher will need to cut out) or place value chips to explore Expanded Notation. Students will decompose 4 given numbers but building each digit in each place value. Students will then learn the multiplication sign says groups of, and they will look at the groups they built with the place value chips and record the expanded notation of each number.

Station 3
Students will use colors and chunking to learn to write numbers in word form. Students will need to write the numbers in word form of 5 cards provided at the station.

Station 4
Students will use colors and chunking to learn or practice how to write number words in standard from. Students will have to read the number words on 5 cards and write them in standard from.

Station 5
Students will analyze a released staar question. They will have to find the correct answer, and then tell why each wrong answer is incorrect. Students will also identify the tricks for each wrong answer. Students can also practice error analysis at this station if the teacher provide a wrong answer and wrong work shown.

Station 6
Students will use base 10 blocks to build 4 numbers. They will have to build each number 2 ways. They will first build the number using every kind of base 10 block (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones). The second way they will have to spin a spinner and the spinner will tell them which base 10 blocks they can not use. Example: If a student is building the number 2,345 and spins the spinner and lands on thousands. The student will use 5 ones, 4 tens, and 23 hundreds to make the number 2,345. Since we know that 10 hundreds equal a thousand.

Station 7
Students will use the “manipulatives” provided to practice sum of word form. Students will have to decompose 3 numbers into sum of word form.

Math Challenge Station
Students will practice decomposing 5 numbers into expanded form, sum of word form, and expanded notation. However each number has a place value they have to decompose even farther. Example: 234 (tens) 200 + 10 + 20 + 4.
I like to print this our for every student on regular paper and have them work on this if they get done early at a station. This however can be its own station.

Math Vocabulary Station
Students will match vocabulary words with their definitions by drawing a line to each. I like to print this on regular paper for everyone and have them work on this if they get done at a station early. However, it can be it’s own station though.
