This is a short Powerpoint presentation to get kids composing rhythms with quarter notes, paired eighth notes, and quarter rests. It uses the excellent "Music Grid" system proposed by Martha Stanley (http://www.marthabeesmusic.com/the-mighty-music-grid.html). To use this powerpoint, download and print some of the 4x4 music grids (free) on Martha's website, and make copies for each student, or laminate and use them with whiteboard markers.
The presentation is a brief review of ta, ti-ti, and ta rest, and demonstrates how they all fit into a square on the grid.
