This project is intended for grade 9 mathematics but can be used for any grade learning about composite shapes. This hands-on project allows students to really explore the concepts of 3D geometry, overlap, composite shapes and surface area. Their imaginations can run wild as they create whatever 3D form they want. Some of my students have created robots, dream houses, golf courses, and much more.
This project is broken down into different steps so that students can collect all the necessary information before completing their final calculations.
Part A: What is their object and what materials will they need? Draw a rough sketch.
Part B: Building and measuring
Part C: Calculations
