This is an activity that takes the previously created Boomwhacker Color Composition and turns it into notation using a simple key. No time signature, bar lines, etc. are used yet. This is intended to be used as the next step in teaching basic composition through the pentatonic scale. Questions for reflection and evaluation are also included - was it easier or more difficult playing from the notation and why; did the composition sound different when notated; would you make any changes. By having students apply meaning to the notes they are selecting, hopefully they will make a connection between the pitch roles in a given scale so the compositions they create are more than just collections of random notes.
