Turn your classroom into a cafe for a day as you and your students compare the five paragraph essay to a deli sandwich. This activity is designed to supplement the more detailed instructions you will provide your students when teaching them how to use this conventional writing format.
This packet provides separate pages for each of the five required paragraphs on which students will write, edit, and revise a rough draft of their five paragraph essay. Each paragraph page will be checked by the teacher for accuracy. When students receive the check mark on the paragraph page, the page becomes a validated "coupon" which can be exchanged for the appropriate sandwich ingredient at your classroom cafe.
First slice of bread=Introductory paragraph
Slice of meat or cheese=Body paragraph 1
Slice of meat or cheese=Body paragraph 2
Slice of meat or cheese=Body paragraph 3
Second slice of bread=Concluding paragraph
Dressings/vegetables=figurative language, transitional hooks (to be placed throughout the sandwich, or essay)
This fun packet contains the following:
--A brief overview of the five paragraph essay format
--A "menu", which can be printed front/back, which explains the metaphor and can be used in your cafe
--Printable note page for student notebooks
--A separate page for each paragraph, to be used as a deli coupon when requirements are met
--A separate page to check for 'bonus elements' such as figurative and descriptive language
Enjoy this delicious activity with your students!
