This lesson introduces compound sentence to students through the use of information paragraphs on animals of the Chesapeake Bay area. I found my pictures on images for each animal. I used u-tube videos on the animal for the student’s content knowledge, but I made sure I previewed the videos first before showing them to the class. I will personally guarantee that ALL students will be able to analyze a compound sentence and write them on their own. This lesson makes it possible for the students to take ownership of their own learning. To write a compound sentence all the students need to do is use the strategy. I have my students keep all visual frameworks and strategies in their interactive notebook, which is used as a reference tool by them all year. This lesson teaches students how to analyze a compound sentence and name the parts of speech in each one, how to write a compound sentence. It is ready to copy and teach.
