This center was made to complement First Grade Wit and Wisdom Module 4 but can work in any classroom!

There are 3 parts to this center:

–Sentence Puzzle:

  • Match the first half of the sentence with a second half that makes sense!
  • There is only one correct answer for each sentence, so make sure that the pieces fit together!

–Sentence starters:

  • Choose a sentence starter. Come up with the silliest ending to the sentence that you can!
  • Make sure your sentence makes sense with the conjunction used in the starter.

–Writing Sheet

  • Record your sentence starter and silly sentence on the sheet! Illustrate your sentence!
  • Start all over with a new sentence starter!
to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy).
Produce and expand complete simple and compound declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences in response to prompts.
Use frequently occurring conjunctions (e.g., and, but, or, so, because).
Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure.
