This product is my Compound Sentence Sort and Build With Coordinating Conjunctions and Commas and Semi-Colons with Transition Words. Students will do a cut and paste activity while building compound sentences using premade clauses. Students also have to select the correct coordinating conjunctions and transition words to go with the sentences. The students also have to glue down the commas and semi-colons in the correct place. I find this very important because it builds their awareness of the comma and semi-colon rules in the compound sentence. I use this with my middle school students to help them prepare for their state SOL assessment.
I print these scale to fit. Also, the students may have varying answers. This is not a problem as long as the sentences are correct and make sense. I usually have them sort and build the sentences on their desks so I can check them, and then they glue them into place once I let them know that they are correct. This way they have another example page to put with their notes. Then when we are writing compound sentences for our essays, they can use these as examples for extra support.
