Very little prep! This product is designed to be used as a file-folder game, but it can just as easily be used a paired work or independent work in a "fast finishers" envelope. It's also valuable for use as early intervention for students who struggle with writing to understand the compound sentence structure or how to join sentences.
Students manipulate the sentence strips and connecting word cards to form the compound sentences and then write them on the recording sheet for great writing practice.
There is also a creative writing page and a creative sentence construction page. The recording sheet has five spaces but there are 10 sentences that can be created by the strips so the center can be spread out over a few days. Mix and match the pieces.
NEW: I added an ESL Insights page, a core standards page, two cut, sort, and glue pages for differentiating, and notes to teachers. Additionally, I added a page to correctly identify combined sentences and a page to write and illustrate one sentence rather than a paragraph to differentiate.
Use frequently occurring conjunctions (e.g., and, but, or, so, because).
Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy).
Use coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
Produce simple, compound, and complex sentences.
