Writing is an important part of our students’ everyday lives. Students need to know how to compose good sentences. In order to do that, they must learn what a good sentence looks like. Compound sentences are a way of adding variety to sentences.
These are 24 task cards will help your students learn how to combine sentences. The first 20 cards ask students to combine 2 simple sentences to form compound sentences. The next 4 task cards ask the students to identify the compound sentence when place with other sentences.
I especially designed these cards for students who are struggling to recognize compound sentences. They are also great to use with special education students.
These cards can be used as bell ringers, exit slips, or as a pre-test or post-test activity for young learners.
I recommend printing these cards off on cardstock and laminating them. This way you can use them over and over again. You can use these cards as they are or place them on book rings to help keep them organized.
