After teaching compound words to your students, create a fun booklet to have in your classroom, as well as to share with parents during conferences!
Remember this is what we do in our own classrooms first, and then pass along to you...BECAUSE, there is just not a SECOND TO LOSE!
*First, copy enough of the (+) and the (=) pages for the kids in your classroom.
*Next, cut the compound words apart and let your children choose the word he/she will work on.
*Then, explain to the students that he/she will illustrate the first and second parts of the compound word separately on the (+) page. (see example)
*After that, on the (=) page have the students illustrate the actual compound word. (see example)
*Finally, have the students write a sentence using the newly formed compound word.
We attach the front cover to a piece of construction paper. We laminate this as well as another piece of construction paper for a back cover for the booklet. After all of the students have finished their pages, we bind the books. ... and….. VIOLA!
