This is a really FUN game-type activity. My first and second grade students loved it! It would challenge kindergarten, but might work as a guided activity. This activity has 18 compound words and 54 cards for students to match.
There is a recording sheet with an I can statement: "I can write compound words." There is a write and illustrate page with an I can statement: "I can write a sentence with a compound word."
I also included a tri-fold interactive compound word journal foldable that could be used in a center with the cards and recording sheet. In addition there is a "suggestion for use" page as well that illustrates the foldables.
NEW: along with a new page of compound words, I added core standards that I used for grades 1-3, and a page of ESL Insights to the product.
Here are the standards I used to support the use of this product:
Use words and phrases acquired through conversations, reading and being read to, and responding to texts,..
Use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words (e.g., birdhouse, lighthouse, housefly; bookshelf, notebook, bookmark).
Use spelling patterns and generalizations (e.g., word families, position-based spellings, syllable patterns, ending rules, meaningful word parts) in writing words.
The glitter frames are not in the actual product except on the credits page at the end, so you don't have to worry about using up more ink to print them. They are part of my presentation. Just print all the pages minus the last page :).
