This fun mini-unit will help your kiddos learn about Compound Words and much more :).
6 pages of Skippy Scarecrow with compound word parts. Copy, cut out and laminate the scarecrow cards. Make several copies of the matching game so all students can play in a small group. Then have
students match the pictures to make compound words. You can have students make their own matching cards using the blank scarecrow page.
Compound Word Sentence Writing
After students make their matches using the Skippy Scarecrow Game, have them illustrate and write 4 sentences on the handwriting paper using 4 of the compound words they formed. The handwriting paper is in this packet following the matching cards.
Compound Word Vocabulary Cards
Following the handwriting paper are several pages of vocabulary cards that have a compound word and picture. We use these for a Dance-Partner-Whisper or a Dance-Partner-Whisper-Swap. See the next page in this pack for instructions for doing a Dance-Partner-Share or a Dance-Partner-Share-Swap. You could also use the
vocabulary cards to talk about syllables, beginning/ending sounds,
Generating sentences, as well as putting words in alphabetical order.
