Compound words center with visual cards to help illustrate the concept of compound words for young and/or visual learners. These are great cards and activities to help students as young as kindergarten understand compound words.
There are 84 picture word cards that show a compound word and the two words that make it (28 compound words total). For example, there is a picture of a horse, a picture of a shoe, and a picture of a horseshoe.
These are great to use in a lesson to introduce or review compound words by showing the pictures to help show students that when you put the two words together, it changes the meaning.
These also make a GREAT literacy center to have students match the 2 words and the compound word they build (3 cards for each match) as a hands-on literacy center. Since there are so many cards, you can differentiate it by giving as many or as little cards as you want for the students to match and you can use them multiple times. I included a recording sheet where students can write the compound words they built in a ___ + ___ = ____ (rain + bow = rainbow) format for 6 words. You could do the station 4 times without repeating any compound words.
I also included 2 Find & Write literacy station sheets so you can put the compound word cards around the room and students go around to find them and write them on their recording sheet.
