Reenforce your students' understanding of compound words with this fun, easy-to-use mini unit with a cute bee theme!
Designed with my 3rd-grade busy bees in mind, this packet will also provide practice for 2nd graders as well as review for 4th graders. The instructional notes and activities are aligned with the following Common Core ELA Language Standards:
**2nd Grade (L.2.4.D) Use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words.
**3rd Grade (L.3.2.F) Use spelling patterns and generalizations (e.g. meaningful word parts) in writing words.
You will find the following included, featuring bee-themed design and vocabulary:
*Relevant Common Core Standards and introduction (1 page)
*”We Can” CCS posters (2 pages)
*Teaching slides to define compound words and encourage small group and whole class discussion of examples (1 page in color, and 1 page in black & white, plus 1 page instructional notes)
*Printable - Busy Buzzy Compound Words (1 page plus 1 page key) - Students will identify components of compound words, cut out and paste missing parts, and then write the compound words
*Foldable - Bee-utiful Compound Words (1 page instructional notes, 1 page interactive version, and 1 page stand-alone project version) - Just print one for each student - no color ink needed! - Students will draw and label parts of compound words to create their own colorful reference artifact - Great for bulletin board display, portfolios, or interactive notebooks!
This would be perfect for independent work in your literacy center, or as an all-inclusive mini unit for your sub tub. It also fits right in with my thematic unit on Bees, which I am just developing and adding to regularly. You can find more Bee Theme activity packets in my store as I post them under the “Thematic Unit - Bees” custom category. Please check back as I plan on adding more Bee Themed units!
