Identify compound words and non-compound words through a fun game. This game is perfect for students just
learning that a compound word is created by joining two smaller words to form a new word.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?
This game consists of one board game...about the size of a single piece of paper. Also, there is a spinner, four playing pieces, 66 compound word game cards, and answer sheets.
HOW IS THE GAME PLAYED?
The compound word cards need to be cut out. They are placed upside down on the game board. Cut out and construct the spinner and four playing pieces. Decide who will go first. Player one picks a card. He/she reads the compound word. If he/she correctly determines if the word is a compound word or is not a compound word, he/she spins the spinner and moves the corresponding number of spaces on the game board. The game board has several squares with directions on them. Player one follows the directions on the board. IF player one does not correctly identify the compound word as a compound word or not a compound word, his/her turn is over. Play continues with the remaining players until someone gets to the end of the game board. As an alternative to using the spinner, a single die (dice) can be used.
TELL ME ABOUT THE GRAPHICS
The game board is color rich. You can easily copy it on a color printer and laminate all pieces. It makes a great center game. You can also print the game in gray scale. It prints clearly. We print one in color and laminate it. This is used as repetitive practice in a center. We also print the game in gray scale and give each student a copy to take home for practice with family members...a great home-school connection!
