If your students enjoy puzzles but you don't enjoy prepping them, you're going to love this! This interactive resource lets students practice compound words by building three piece trains. All pieces are square so it is easy cutting for you.
These compound words activities were designed with differentiation in mind so there are additional optional pieces beyond the main center. It works great for introducing compound words in a small group as well as practice and review in literacy centers with partners or independently.
The main center contains 24 trains. The engine has the compound word written on it and there are two picture train cars that create the word. The recording sheets have six words to a page so you can copy the pages front to back and have two centers with twelve cards each to use at different times or share between groups.
There one page of extra empty colored train cars that can be copied and students can add an additional car to the end of their train along with one of the 24 picture cards that represent the complete compound word. The engine cards and additional picture cards can also be used together to create a matching game of compound words to compound complete pictures.
There are also empty line art train cars that you can use for assessment to have students create their own compound word trains.
