Compound Words or Naw

Compound Words or Naw
Product Description
Many of my students use the phrase 'or naw' to replace the word 'not'. For example, "Are you tired or naw?" or "Are we going to have recess today or naw?" It has turned into a fun part of our classroom culture and we use similar phrases on a daily basis. if your students are unaware of this term you can easily change it to the word 'not'.
One of the skills that my students have to know in 4th grade is whether or not a word is a compound word 'or naw'. It is simple for upper elementary students to create compound words but it is a harder skill for them to distinguish between two syllable words that are compound words or not compound words. The first page of this product is the recording sheet that students use to record the words found on the second page of the document. Cut the second page into three strips to save on paper. Display the third page once students are done for them to check their answers. Enjoy!
