Comprehension Strategy Ghosts - An October Craftivity
Get your students thinking about their reading with this fun October book-tivity. You can use these Comprehension Ghosts with any book – from read alouds, to shared reading, to guided reading, to independent reading.
Students will answer each of the six questions about comprehension strategies using a well-formed paragraph (asking questions, inferring, making connections, summarizing, synthesizing, visualizing). Paragraphs should contain evidence of their own thinking, as well as evidence from the text (as outlined in the rubric). A rubric is included for a summative assessment of the book they are using, which makes this a great option for a non-traditional book report.
This resource contains options for two different sizes of ghosts – one on full sheets (great for display in a larger area and writing longer answers), and one on half sheets (great for smaller display areas and shorter answers). Print only the size you need. The ghosts can also be hung from the ceiling by punching a hole in the top and hanging from a ribbon for an extra exciting October display.
You have three different options for printing (you want your ghosts to be sturdy enough to stand on their own):
- Print on white construction paper
- Print on cardstock
- Print on regular paper, then glue onto construction paper and cut out around the ghost shape
For easier completion, be sure students complete each page BEFORE they assemble the ghost.
