This is an incredible journey that Eve Bunting writes about to get students to understand the history of the Orphan Trains in the late 1800's.
When putting this packet together I designed this packet to give children much needed background knowledge before reading the text.
Students will also have vocabulary words to review before reading. This allows students to get familiar with the words. I teach the Daily 5 and thought about ** Expanded Vocabulary when I did this*.
In addition I asked questions for students to think about and answer during their reading.
I also added a thinking beyond the text. I thought of this idea because when we do our F and P testing many students struggle with this concept. Taking the information at hand and applying their thinking,
I use this with my high level readers in 4th grade. I have left it in word so you can modify based on your readers.
