I am using the Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) blue kit for a small group of 3rd graders who are significantly below level in reading and are English Language Learners. While the books are at their level, I found that the "fold sheets" that I was sending home as homework weren't rigorous enough for 3rd grade learners. (My school does not have the 3rd grade LLI Red kit.)
These comprehension questions are pulled from the running records (when available) or from the LLI Lesson Guide. For each text, students answer literal, inferential, and/or critical thinking questions. Each lesson includes at least one inferential or critical thinking questions.
I send these home as homework in place of the LLI "fold sheets." Therefore, this is going home after the 2nd in-group read of each text. I use them like exit tickets, ensuring that students were able to engage in conversation and take away some of the bigger concepts that we discussed in group.
In most cases, some of the higher-level questions have sentence stems to support students to write complete sentences. Because all of the students in my small group have English Language Learner status, using complete sentences is a big target for us!
Please provide feedback on this resource! I am continuing to create these as we work through the LLI lessons and would love to know how they can be improved.
All texts are copywritten by Fountas & Pinnell literacy. More information about LLI can be found at http://www.fountasandpinnell.com/lli/
