To help students focus on their at-home reading assignments, this at-home weekly reading log gives students a purpose to their reading!
Instead of sending students home with packets of recall only comprehension questions, this weekly log requires students to practice summarizing skills and connection skills. Students have to identify major plot details in order to summarize what they have read. Then, they have to think beyond the text to reflect or connect to their reading. Both of these are crucial reading comprehension skills.
The teacher can stamp the log each time it is completed or ask students to complete it on the honor system and return it when the due date arrives. This can also help shape classroom discussions.
