Comprehension Strategy Craftivity - Comprehension Snowmen
Get your students thinking about their reading with this fun Winter book-tivity. You can use these Comprehension Snowmen with any book – from read alouds, to shared reading, to guided reading, to independent reading.
Students will answer each of the six questions about comprehension strategies using a well-formed paragraph (asking questions, inferring, making connections, summarizing, synthesizing, determining importance). Paragraphs should contain evidence of their own thinking, as well as evidence from the text (as outlined in the rubric). A rubric is included for a summative assessment of the book they are using, which makes this a great option for a non-traditional book report.
This resource contains options for two different sizes of snowmen – one on full sheets (great for display in a larger area and writing longer answers), and one on half sheets (great for smaller display areas and shorter answers). Print only the size you need. I have also included a blank template for both sizes. You can use this blank template to add in your own questions, or use as a cover page in case you want to assemble the craftivity into book format rather than a 3D snowman.
A rubric is also included for formative or summative assessment.
You have three different options for printing (you want your snowmen to be sturdy enough to stand on their own):
- Print on white construction paper
- Print on cardstock
- Print on regular paper, then glue onto construction paper and cut out around the snowman shape
For easier completion, be sure students complete each page BEFORE they assemble the snowman.
This product is also included in my December Literacy Craftivity Bundle which contains 3 different literacy-themed craftivities for December.
