Thinking stems are a great way to have your students track their thoughts about reading. This file includes loads of great thinking stems and evidence prompts to get your student tracking and justifying their thinking. The following items are included in this file.
*Posters – I included seven colorful posters with comprehension thinking stems and one poster for supporting thinking with evidence.
*Mini-Posters – I included a smaller version of each poster. Here are some suggestions for the mini-posters.
1. Hand out one poster to each group member. Each student must use one of the prompts on their posters for a written and/or verbal response.
2. Have posters on a ring for students who are struggling with this concept.
3. Lay all the posters on the table. As students read silently, they take the poster that matches their thinking.
4. The mini-posters also work great during reading conferences.
*Interactive Notebook Materials – I included a chart with all the thinking & evidence stems for students to use as a handy reference when completing a variety of written responses. I also included a foldable for thinking stems and evidence. There are directions and an example of the foldable.
*Graphic Organizer – I included two different versions of the graphic organizer. Choose the one that works best for your students.
*Bookmarks – The bookmarks are a super convenient way for students to have the thinking stems and evidence prompts at their fingertips. These work especially well if students have homework and need to keep their reading notebooks at school.
