These are quick summarizing graphic organizers for struggling readers to use in Independent Reading. I suggest teaching summary with an anchor chart and explicitly teaching one strategy at a time in a small group. Students should track summaries for each chapter or section of a text (depends on directions from you) while reading independently. Follow up by having 1-2 students using language frames for students to share their summary in following small group sessions. Listeners in the small group use language frames to either confirm what they heard or provide a constructive comment to the student that shared. In short, teach one strategy at a time and follow up for about 2 weeks. Make adjustments and modify as needed.
