Product Description
Guided reading or Reading Workshop materials with comprehension questions, phonics work, games, a companion non-fiction passage on elephants, and independent worksheets for Syd Hoff’s Oliver are correlated for you in this unit. If needed for reinforcing with struggling readers, you will also find two links for informal readings of the book. This is a very low prep unit. It is a Grade Level Equivalent 2.5, Lexile 180L, DRA 16, Guided Reading J book. There are choices to select from to meet the needs of your students. The reading has been broken into manageable sections with the following parts offered to use with this text:

1. 4 sets of comprehension questions along with some suggested discussion questions, websites of 2 males reading of the book, and the author’s official site

2. Vocabulary lists for each section to aid in pre-teaching of textual words as needed

3. Non-fiction informational passage on elephants with open-ended responses

4. End-of-book projects addressing many levels of Blooms Taxonomy

5. Sorting of sentences that utilize could, should, would, and cold (a real distractor)

6. Sorting of long vowel a, i, o, u pictures

7. Small group or center sorting of long and short /a/ pictures available in color or black and white and for independent practice

8. v-c-e work and follow-up worksheet

9. Contraction puzzles and follow-up worksheet
