Have you ever wondered how to accommodate all of your learners during independent time for guided reading? This is something I struggled to do without making entirely too much prep work for myself everyday. These discussion cards are a great prep-once resource that I have used with struggling readers, but especially with my high flyers as a valuable book club tool! Being that I don't necessarily meet with my high readers for guided reading, these cards facilitate great discussion and dialogue in their groups.
This resource includes:
-35 discussion cards with various generic questions that can be used for any text
-4 different types of recording sheets
-A list of all numbered questions for your convenience
These cards challenge your higher readers to think outside of the box while reading, while also allowing your struggling readers to review comprehension skills (compare and contrast, sequencing, character traits, etc.)
This is a great differentiated and INDEPENDENT resource!
Some questions included in this pack:
-What is the genre of the story?
-What is the setting of the story? Where does it take place?
-Choose one character from the story and use 3 character traits to describe them.
-If you could change anything in this story, what would it be and why?
-What surprised you in this story/book? Explain.
-Make a personal connection to this story/book. Explain how you can relate to the events that happen in the story.
...and MANY more!
