Description

This article is on the topic of changes to the school year. I wrote this, as I thought kids would be supper engaged in discussion about this topic, as I’m sure they will have some very STRONG feelings!

I’ve been working with my kids on close reading, so the color by comprehension on the right side bar of each page helps them with finding specific evidence in the text to help them comprehend.
Students are asked to:
Circle in red = Unknown words
Underline in green = Suggested changes to the school day.
Underline in blue = Reasons why the school day should not be changed.
Circle in purple = Important figures

I also included an essay at the end of the packet to help students use this text evidence to support their responses, while also writing their own opinions into a writing piece.

Included:
*An article about an extended school year
*Color by Comprehension activity.
*Text detective CLOZE reading activity
*An essay helping students use text evidence from the article.

Enjoy!
