The “Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Instruction” chart is appropriate for reading and writing program and lesson planning throughout the year, literacy instruction, and identifying reading and writing behaviors successful learners in grades 1st-8th use in all subjects. With scaffolding, K teachers can use the chart for planning and introducing these strategy concepts to students, during class reading aloud, group writing, modeling, and practicing one concept at a time in shared and guided reading and writing. The “Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Instruction” chart will also assist teachers of all subjects in the identification of literacy strategy concepts, which will improve student reading of texts (fiction and nonfiction), text comprehension, and written communication across the curriculum.
The “Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Instruction” chart (pages 7-8) with literacy goals, reading, reading comprehension, and writing strategy concepts can be integrated into your daily literacy planning and instruction, included in student reading and writing practice, and used to teach English language arts standards identified from the Common Core Standards’ links referenced on pages 9-10. (See Lynne’s Literacy Learnings for materials with student friendly literacy strategies, activities, and lessons to teach these strategy concepts and reading and writing behaviors of successful learners on the “Comprehensive Balanced Literacy Instruction” chart.)
Complimentary bulletin board teaching wall headings also provided can be printed, enlarged as needed, and placed above the reading and writing strategy charts included in the materials with reading and writing strategy charts purchased and described. (See pages 11 to the end of the material.)
