Enjoy teaching reading with mini-lessons? We all need great book recommendations when teaching those mini-lessons, so here you go! The Comprehensive Book List: Reading Strategies includes hundreds of books organized according to strategy (and it's all alphabetized too.... and each author is listed.....wow!!).
Here are the categories included:
-Check for understanding
-Text features: dictionary, thesaurus, & glossary
-Recognize literary elements
-Cause and effect
-Compare and contrast
-Beginning & ending sounds
-Tons of reading
-Appropriate book level
-How to read a book
-Taking care of books
-Beginning of the year
-Reading to another person
Simply print and place into your reading/conferring binder (or lesson plan book). When you are planning lessons, this will be a handy reference!
The alphabetized book list is divided into reading mini-lesson categories (“The” is under “T” for simplicity due to the large volume of titles…!)
Find the strategy you are teaching and look through the books listed. Under each strategy is a place to record books you have found that worked for you.
Plan your lessons on the optional lesson planning pages. Circle “keep” if your lesson is awesome; circle “tweak” if it needs your attention for next time! There are 2 lesson pages with color and 1 that is black and white.
This list has been extensively researched through authors, speakers, teachers, and classroom use and supports Common Core, Daily 5, and Debbie Miller’s Reading with Meaning.
This is a comprehensive book list for reading strategies, NOT lesson plans for each reading strategy.
Happy planning! :)
