PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This comprehensive phonics assessment is useful at the beginning of the year to help with targeted instructional planning, at or near the end of the school year to determine specific phonemes &/or letter patterns your students still need to work on, or any time during the school year that you would like a specific, accurate assessment of the letter/sound correspondences your students have mastered. A total of 14 one page assessments are included:

- Phonemic Awareness (consonant sounds)
Students match pictures with like beginning consonant
sounds – all consonants except “x” are represented
- Rhyming
Given three choices, students circle the picture of a word that
rhymes with a designated picture (just phonemic awareness-
no print provided)
- Beginning Consonants - all consonants except “x” are
represented
- one assessment in which students circle the correct
initial consonant to go with a picture
- one assessment in which students write the beginning
consonant for each picture
- Ending Consonants- all consonants except c (because /k/ is
included as “k”) , h, q w, & y are represented
- one assessment in which students circle the consonant
that represents the ending sound of the picture
- one assessment in which the students write the letter
that represents the ending sound of the picture
- Medial Short Vowels
- two assessments using the above format
- Long & Short Vowels
- one assessment in which students circle “long” or “short”
as well as the vowel sound they hear for each picture
- one assessment in which students circle “long” or
“short” and write the vowel sound they hear for each
picture
- Digraphs - sh, ch, th
- two assessments as described above
- one assessment in which students write the correct
digraph in the designated beginning or ending position
for each picture
- Irregular Vowel Sounds – ow/ou, ew/oo, aw/au, oo/ou, & oy/oi
- Students circle the vowel or vowel/consonant pairs that
represent the medial sound of a given picture, then choose
between the two pairs by coloring the one they believe belongs
in the correct spelling of that word.

It should be noted that a few (very few, actually!) of the assessment items represent accurate SOUND but not correct LETTER matches due to the developmental level of the emergent/beginning literacy learners using the assessments, (explanation included)
