Short story units are SO fun! What's not fun is making individual reading guides for every short story we teach. This reading guide is a great resource for anyone who is looking for a practical, reliable resource that students can use for any short story. It requires them to predict, summarize, make connections, ask questions, visualize, infer, and analyze. Terms like conflict, plot, and characterization are covered in addition to many others.
I have used the same reading guide with multiple short stories in the past when I wanted students to move from teacher-led instruction to small group or partner practice and then finally to independent work. This document would work well with an individual story that you just don't have time to make a reading guide for, but it would also work well in a short story unit for various texts.
Happy reading and please leave feedback! I love hearing how teachers use materials in their classrooms.
